Classic Christmas Sugar Cookies

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp milk (if dough is too stiff)
- Red and green sprinkles (optional)
- Royal icing or glaze (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy, then add egg and vanilla. Gradually mix in dry ingredients. Chill dough for 1 hour. 2. Roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness, cut shapes with cookie cutters, and place on baking sheets. Sprinkle with optional sprinkles. 3. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are golden. Let cool before transferring to a wire rack. 4. Optionally decorate with royal icing or glaze.
